Tender Mercies

It has been an adventure the last couple weeks. In my last email, I talked about Isaiah, the 11  year boy who’s parents are both inactive. We have been teaching him for 3 weeks and have  been to his house everyday last week. We invited him to be baptized which he accepted. We  then had to get permission from his parents which was denied. It is sad to see this happen  were he is ready and willing and his parents refused. We are going to have to drop him from our  teaching but hope he continues to attend church.

We did find another friend who speaks French. Her name is Marie. We are using Google  Translate to teach her the Gospel and I think she will get baptized. She was already aware of  the Church from a nephew who is a member. She is very patient because the services we  provide are Spanish and English. I sat on the back row of Sacrament meeting and the second  hour using the translator the best I could. She is a sweet older lady who is accepting the  Gospel.

Last week I had a tender mercy happen to me and my companion. We got up and did our  regular prayer, study and planning. As we were planning our day, we talked about what we  were going to do for food. Our MSF “missionary funds” had not been loaded for the week. We  didn’t know how or what we were going to eat for lunch or dinner. Within a few minutes my dad  texted me and said, don’t have lunch, I have someone who is going to meet you and your  companion for lunch. I was told to find somewhere nice and not to worry about the cost. We  chose a place called, Bungalow Bar “not a bar but do serve alcohol”. It is on the Jamaica Bay  and is much nicer than what we are use to eating.

I still didn’t know who was coming. As we were walking up to the restaurant, a couple pulled up and asked if we were hungry. It was Landon and Terry Darley. I was so surprised to see them in Far
Rockaway. Turns out that they were in New York and called my dad asking if they could buy me and my companion lunch. We had a really nice meal with appetizer, main course and dessert. We took home food for than night as well. It was so nice to see people from home.

What are the chances that on the one day we needed food and the Darley’s were in New York and chose to come to Far Rockaway. I testify it is not by chance. God is in the details of our lives and loves us. He is aware of our situations and prompts us through the Holy Ghost to serve others in countless ways.
