Flushing New York
I have been transferred. The day before my transfer I got a flat tire so not a great start to getting ready to leave Far Rockaway. Luckily I knew how to change the tire and it went smoothly. I think I have been transferred to China. I am now in Flushing, New York. It is a part of Queens. This area is the largest Chinatown in the world. When you walk down the street there is Chinese writing on all the signs and businesses. It literally looks like a street in China. Flushing is also home to the Mets MLB team and the US Open tennis tournament that is in Flushing Meadows Park.
I had my first full on authentic Chinese meal. One of the Chinese members took the Flushing area Elders to the full on deal. He spoke Chinese to the waitresses and we had no idea what we were getting. The food kept coming onto a spinning center part of the table and you would just spin and grab what you want. I’m not so sure what I ate and it’s going to take some time to get use to that.
When I first arrived I had a baptism. A woman by the name of Marissa. She was being taught by the other Elders for a long time and I just lucked out on timing and she was able to get baptized. She has been struggling with the word of wisdom and was able to over come that. Great timing for me and my new companion.
My new companion is from Arizona. HIs name is Elder Meeker. He has been out for 6 months. We get along really well so I am looking forward to my time with him. We have a nice apartment so that is awesome as well. Even thought I have only been here for three days, I am enjoying it so far and look forward to working here.
It is amazing to see how the Church and especially Jesus Christ impacts all people and places of the world. I know that Jesus is the Christ and loves all his children no matter their circumstance.
