End Of First Transfer

Image
This transfer was longer than a normal transfer it was 7 weeks instead of 6. My Spanish has improved since I first got here but i still have a ways to go but it's fine. My companion is leaving to Burmuda so I am going to get a new companion to finish out my training for this second transfer. This transfer has been tough but a really good learning experience for me and I have noticed how much I have grown in only a month and a half. The ward had an activity about Lehi's vision in the Book of Mormon and the ward cut down a tree and put it in the gym at the church so it was cool. Me and my companion played parts in it. He was Nephi and I was Lemuel. It was fun to do and bond with the ward members. This past week has been hard for me and my companion for finding people to teach but God saw our efforts and we had a miracle yesterday. So a guy we taught really liked the gospel and the restoration and even passed his baptism interview. But he had friends going to another church so we ...

Week Idk

Image
These past two weeks have been really busy so sorry I didn't get an email out earlier. So kind of a crazy story but when I was at the church last Sunday my ZL needed my phone for a second and he left it on a table at the church. And before my companion and I were about to leave we went to go grab it but it wasn't there. So we started looking for it around the church but after like 20mins of searching it was no where to be found. Luckily this phone was the one the mission gave me and I had a phone my parents sent me at my apartment so we just had to set the other one up. The problem was I couldn't remember my church account password so I couldn't set up the new phone. So I called up the tech help desk in SLC and we got it all figured out by the end of Monday. So I didn't have time to write an email my bad. We ended up getting a call from a member later in the week whose kid took the phone thinking it was their parents but we got the phone back now. We have our first ...

Week 4

Image
Was just kind of a normal week not a ton happened. Some things that stuck out to me was we taught a guy who was from Columbia and he came all the way up to the United States for work and more money because his mom has cancer and he trying to make the payments for her treatments. So that really humbled me that he would come all the way for his mother his family so he was a really cool guy. There are a lot of immigrants here that come for a better life and It's been really humbling to me. The weather here has been pretty much the same just cold and rainy. We had interviews with President Holmes and he is really awesome and is a very driven and motivated person but also really loving and patient so he is a really good guy. It's been a pretty normal week not too much has happened. And the picture is the Hartford, CT temple but I haven't been there yet but I want too.

3rd Week

This week has been really good. I was able to find this one lady who was born in Costa Rica but she has lived in the states for 58 years so she speaks both Spanish and English. Her name is Nuralia and I talked to her about the Book of Mormon and just about her life and stuff. I invited to her to church and she was super happy afterwards and she was glad she came. She told my companion and I that we are her grandchildren now so she really likes us. She also stayed for the second hour of church so we will see what happens. But she said she might not be able to come next week but we just need to teach her and then we can get her baptized. She also travels a lot for work so she's hard to get a lesson with but we will see. We also had a cool devotional with the mission pres and the mission that was about how the mission is hard and sometimes you won't have success but he told us to hang in there and the mission president told us that the Lord is just pruning us now so that later we ...

First And Second Week In New York

Image
I finally arrived in New York and it's pretty crazy here. When I flew in I saw the New York skyline and it was really cool because I've never seen it before so that was cool. Our first day we had New York Pizza and got to stay in a nice hotel and it was really nice to get a good night's rest. After that we got assigned to a trainer and our first area in the mission. I got assigned to Bridgeport, Connecticut and it is as far north as this mission goes. It takes like an 1hr 45mins to drive from Manhattan where I was, to our apartment building. My trainer is Elder Welsh and he is a really cool guy and he's from Texas. He is not a native Spanish speaker and coming into the mission he didn't know Spanish but he pretty much talks like he does now. He's been out for 14 months. First week so far has been rough just because I don't really know what I'm doing and stuff and Spanish is hard. But it's getting better everyday. For a normal day we get up and get re...

President And Sister Holmes

Brother and Sister Kendrick Elder Kendrick is absolutely terrific. Thank you for raising and sending out such a wonderful missionary. We were able to meet him on Monday and we feel so honored to be able to serve alongside him as disciples of Jesus Christ. We have great faith that Elder Kendrick will change the lives of many people as he invites others to come unto Christ and accept His Gospel. Please know of our love for your missionary and our commitment to their success. All our love, President and Sister Holmes

Last Week At MTC

Image
It is my last week here and it's crazy how fast time has gone here. I had the opportunity to go to the temple again today and we did sealings and an endowment session right after. The temple is 45mins away from the CCM and we drive right through Mexico City. It's crazy to see Mexico City and the difference between the United States and here and I just think to myself how blessed I am to be born and live in the United States. Another thing that I love about the temple is how quiet it is there and the temple is just right off the road next to a big intersection and just the overall peaceful feeling at the temple. A funny but also cool story is that a companionship in our district was supposed to give a lesson on Sunday and me and my comp said we would do it for donuts from the store here. They agreed but it was the night before Sunday so we were not prepared to give a lesson. Sunday came and we gave the lesson. What's crazy about it is I knew exactly what to say only like a...
